Steel structures

Humans have long sought shelter and safe havens to meet their needs. These spaces must be comfortable and affordable while also meeting certain structural requirements such as resistance to gravity loads, earthquakes, heat, and the ability to span large distances and support multiple floors. Over time, various building materials have been used to construct these structures. Concrete, in particular, has become one of the most widely used materials due to its high compressive strength. However, concrete has a significant weakness: a very low tensile strength (approximately 10% of its compressive strength). To overcome this limitation, the concept of reinforced concrete was developed. In this method, steel, a material with high tensile strength, is embedded in concrete wherever the structure is subjected to tensile forces, either in direct tension or tension caused by bending.
